For those who do not know, The House of the Rising Sun is a New Orleans legend. It is said to be a house of ill-repute or pleasure, depending upon your point of view. It is believed to have been owned by a madam named Marianne LeSoleil Levant, whose name is French for “rising sun.” It location is believed to be at 826-830 St. Louis Street, now a real estate office, and the owner says renovations uncovered risque postcards from the 1800s and a ceiling mural of a golden rising sun surrounded by three cherubs.
